ROGERS, Ark. –University of Arkansas sophomore Gabriela Lopez fired a second round 74 at the Walmart Northwest Arkansas LPGA Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., Saturday.
Although Lopez will not make the cut her experience is one she can learn from.
“I really enjoyed this experience,” Lopez said. “I played better today and really have a lot of things that I learned from this experience. I feel very blessed and very glad to be here, It was a lifetime opportunity to play in an LPGA tournament and I just want to say thank you for the opportunity."
Lopez opened play with a 79 in the first round Friday for 153 (79-74).
"I'm so proud of Gaby," said Arkansas golf coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. "This is where she wants to be and to have the opportunity to tee it up with these players gives her the opportuntiy to move forward to help her move and improve as a player."
She was able to get her putter going today with three birdies in the round. Lopez birdied the 12th, 16th and 17th holes, her only birdies of the tournament.
Former Razorback Stacy Lewis was tied for fourth after the first round but moved into a tie for the lead when she completed her round this morning.
