FAYETTEVILLEKeri Wood has been selected to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Second Team for this year’s performance in the classroom and on the track. The honors were announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA). Wood was eligible for national honors after being named to the academic all-district team in May.

Wood completed her undergraduate work with a major in marketing and minor in economics, and graduated in May 2012 while maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average. She began graduate classes to pursue an MBA during the fall semester. On the track, she collected the first All-America accolades of her career during the indoor season as the lead leg of the Razorbacks’ third-place distance-medley relay at the NCAA Championships. The College Station, Texas, native was a 2013 NCAA West Preliminary qualifier at 1,500 meters.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sport information director.

In May, Wood and teammate Grace Heymsfield were named to the academic all-district team. Heymsfield was the SEC champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and went on to finish seventh in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a school-record performance of 9:57.18 in Eugene, Ore. The Elkins, Ark., native is the only runner in program history to dip below the 10-minute mark in the steeplechase.
