FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas men’s track & field assistant coach Travis Geopfert
is one of two coaches for Team USA in the 20th annual Thorpe Cup, Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28, at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The Thorpe Cup is an annual competition between the USA and Germany which places the top seven men and women from each country in the decathlon and heptathlon against each other in a team competition.
The 2013 Thorpe Cup is Geopfert’s fifth time participating in the event as both an athlete and coach. Arkansas’ assistant coach helped the USA win the competition as an athlete in 2003, 2004 and 2006; and returned to the event as a coach in 2009, another Team USA victory. Overall, Team USA holds a 13-6 lead in the series.
Along with Geopfert, Razorback athletic trainer Aki Tajima
has been designated as Team USA’s athletic trainer.
