FAYETTEVILLE - Digging deep to rally and finish off an undefeated weekend of singles play, Kimberley - Ann Surin claimed a flight championship at the Colorado Invitational on Sunday to headline a dual-event weekend of competition for the University of Arkansas women's tennis team.

Competing in Flight A competition, Surin faced Maureen Slattery of Denver in the Gold Singles title match. The sophomore from Montreal, Canada, battled back after dropping the first set, 5-6, and completed the comeback by going 6-5, 6-0 over the final two sets to take the match.

The championship victory marked a 3-0 stretch of competition for Surin in Boulder, Colo., and improved her overall fall singles record to 4-1.

"It was great to finish on a high note today," head coach Michael Hegarty said. "Kimberley was able to battle through a solid opponent and found a way to unleash her best tennis of the weekend at the most important time. This was a great confidence boosting week all around for us."

Just across the courts, Flavia Araujo also came from behind to pull out a win of her own in the final set. Matched up against Denver's Michelle Garpenlov in Silver Singles consolation play, Araujo earned her second win of the tournament and defeated Garpenlov, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Araujo and Surin return to Fayetteville where they begin preparation for the Razorback Classic, Oct. 4-6, hosted by Arkansas at the Billingsley Tennis Center. The five-team tournament has the Razorbacks welcoming in competiton from Auburn, Louisiana Tech, Memphis and Tulsa.

Teammates Sarah McLean and Yang Pang remain in Pacific Palisades, Calif., where the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships has them resuming qualifying play on Tuesday.
