FAYETTEVILLE -- University of Arkansas women's basketball head coach Tom Collen met with media on Thursday to recap the team's road win over Kansas and preview the upcoming home matchup against Northwestern State on Saturday.
Their first true road game of the season, the Razorbacks gained valuable experience in being able to play in front of a hostile Allen Fieldhouse crowd and come out with a win Wednesday night.
"I thought it was a great road win for us," Collen said. "I knew it would be a great game and the crowd would be excited. I think that game lived up to its expectations. I think our players did a great job of rising to the occassion in a tough environment."
Having wrapped up three road games in six days, Arkansas returns home for a five-game homestand in which it will wrap up its non-conference schedule. First up is Northwestern State on Saturday.
"They're going to be a pretty competitive game," Collen said. "They gave us trouble last year. They come in and run a lot of Princeton offense and try to grind you down offensively and make you work for 25 seconds at a time. That slows the pace of the game."
Coming off a highly-anticipated matchup against Kansas and coming out with a win in an energized effort, the Razorbacks are not going to let down and overlook Northwestern State.
"They return a couple of kids that were hurt last year that we didn't get to play against," Collen said. "I expect them to be a pretty competitive team for us. We certainly can't overlook them."
Arkansas (9-0) and Northwestern State (3-3) are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. Saturday inside Bud Walton Arena. The game will air in Northwest Arkansas on KOSM-FM 92.1; in Rogers on KURM-AM 790; in Fort Smith on KFPW-FM and 94.5 FM and 1230 AM; and in Little Rock on KREB-FM 103.7.
