Welcome to a brand new year! Let's get things started right with another installment of The Daily Call.

#HOGHIGHLIGHT: GET TO KNOW ANOTHER MEMBER OF @RAZORBACKWBB

With the season underway for @RazorbackWBB (13-0), we help you get to know each individual Razorback better by featuring this year's team one-by-one with our Hog Highlight series.

Next up is Bria Pitts, a freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla.

Pitts attended East Central High, where the 5-8 guard/forward was the leading scorer for the Class 5A runners-up last season. As a junior, Pitts averaged 14.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 5.2 steals per game as a junior. Pitts tore her ACL in the state semifinals in 2012, yet was the sixth-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma last season.

This season, Pitts is averaging 4.1 points per game in just over 10 minutes a contest coming off of the bench for the Razorbacks. Shooting a sharp 43.3 percent (13-for-30) from three-point range, Pitts is one of the leading contributors to Arkansas ranking No. 2 in the NCAA for three-point field-goal percentage (43.8).

Pitts is from an athletic family, as her father played football and her mother ran track at Central Missouri.

What are you studying at Arkansas?

Kinesiology. I wanted to be a veterinarian, but I don't really know what direction I'm headed.

Do you have any siblings?

I have one older sister, Ashlee.

Do you have any pets?

I have a dog named Tyson.

You've had some injury setbacks over your career. Which knees did you injure and do you think about it when you play now?

One on the right knee, two on the left knee. Yea. That's why I don't drive a lot or take a lot of layups. They always tease me about taking too many--I only shoot threes. All three of the tears were ACL. The first two were hamstrings and the third was my patella.

Fans have enjoyed your aggressive nature on the court as a shooter. Does that ever get you in trouble with the coaches?

I think Coach Collen is pretty confident in my shot. He tells me if I'm going to shoot the shot then I should be 100 percent confident that it's going to go in.

You were committed to Ole Miss before later choosing to come to Arkansas. Had you ever really seen yourself becoming a Razorback back when the process started?

Not really, since I was committed to Ole Miss. But, I've enjoyed my time here.

Seeing as Fayetteville isn't too far away from home, are your parents able to make the short trip to come and see you play?

Yes, they've come to every home game. At least my Dad has. He sits right across from the visiting bench.

LOOK BACK ON 2013 FOR @RAZORBACKWGOLF

The University of Arkansas women’s golf team had much to be thankful for as 2013 came to a close. Take a quick look back at some of the highlights of the 2013 calendar year as the team now gets ready to turn the page and move into 2014.

-WIN AT LSU (March 24, 2013)
Emily Tubert paced the eighth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team to the win while earning medalist honors at the LSU Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., in March.  It was the first team title since the 2010 season and the fifth individual title for Tubert – her second during her junior season.

The final round began early Sunday morning with temps around 58 degrees and gusting winds up to 25 miles per hour.  Despite those challenging conditions, the Razorbacks hung on to their second round lead getting the win Sunday.  The Razorbacks tied the second lowest round of the day with a 309 on Sunday giving them a plus-35 899 for the three-day tournament.

-GRADUATION OF VICTORIA VELA, MEAGAN ROBERTS AND EMILY PODZIELINSKI (May, 2013)
Seniors Victoria Vela, Meagan Roberts and Emily Podzielinski all graduated with degrees in their field this May. Vela and Roberts moved on to careers while Podzielinski returned to campus and is pursuing her master’s degree while wrapping up her final season of collegiate golf in 2013-14.

-THIRD NCAA REGIONAL (May 9-11, 2013)
The fifth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team tied for third place at the 2013 NCAA East Regional in May.  Arkansas finished with a final round 287 to tie for third place with an 864. The tie for third is the program’s best NCAA Regional finish bettering the fourth-place finish two seasons ago.

-NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCE (May 21-24, 2013)
The Razorback women’s golf team made the program’s sixth NCAA Championship appearance in 2013.  The fifth-ranked Razorbacks tied for 13th overall after battling tough conditions at the UGA Golf Course.  Senior Victoria Vela was plus-four in the final round leading the team and paced  Arkansas for the event, shooting 298 with rounds of 74-71-77-76. Vela finished the tournament tied for 37th overall. Emily Tubert shot 301 carding rounds of 75-73-74-79 and freshman Gabriela Lopez shot 74-76-75-77 for 302. Lavy and Plasencia tied for 85th overall.

-MIKE ADAMS NAMED ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR (May 24, 2013)
University of Arkansas women’s golf coach Mike Adams earned National Golf Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year the coaches association announced.  Adams joined the University of Arkansas as the assistant women’s golf coach in August 2007, but his association with current Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor began when he was her coach throughout her junior years, her collegiate career and while she was on tour as a professional player.  Since joining the Razorback program, Adams has assisted Arkansas to the top four finishes at the SEC Championship, seven consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and four NCAA Championship appearances including three in a row.  He is the second Razorback women’s golf assistant to earn NGCA Assistant Coach of the Year, Estes-Taylor who earned the award in her final season as a Razorback assistant in 2007.

-EMILY TUBER EARNS THIRD ALL-AMERICA HONOR (May 29, 2013)
FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas junior Emily Tubert earned National Golf Coaches Association All-America honors the organization announced.  The Burbank, Calif., native is an honorable mention selection, and this year’s award is the third in her three-year career for Tubert.

Tubert paced the Razorbacks for the third consecutive season averaging 73.41 strokes per round in 34 rounds as a junior.  She picked up two individual wins bringing her career total to five.  This season, Tubert’s score versus par ranks the junior 37th in the nation and 10th in the region.  Her adjusted score ranks 32nd in the country and 11th in the region.  She had six top 10 finishes leading the Razorbacks to eight top 10 places in 13 events this season.  Arkansas finished the year ranked eighth in the country after tying for 13th at the NCAA Championship last week. For her career, Tubert has competed in 33 events, playing 101 rounds with a 72.68 stroke average and 0.88 mark against par.  Her lowest round is a 63, scored in Las Vegas and she has had 13 rounds in the 60s.

-VICTORIA VELA, EMILY TUBERT, GABRIELA LOPEZ EARN ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA HONORS (Sept. 1, 2013)
University of Arkansas women’s golfers Emily Tubert, Gabriela Lopez and Victoria Vela earned selection to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars Team. Vela was a senior on last season’s team who graduated with a degree in marketing in May.  Tubert is a senior-to-be working on a broadcast journalism degree and Lopez is a sophomore-to-be working on her degree in communication.  To be selected, honorees must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50.

The selection is the fourth consecutive for Vela and the third for Tubert.  The trio paced the Razorbacks to a No. 8 final ranking after a tie for 13th place at the 2013 NCAA Championship in Athens, Ga.  As a team the Razorbacks posted nine top five finishes, six top three finishes and won one tournament in the 2012-13 season.  The fall season saw the Razorbacks finish third twice and tie for fifth in the three-event season.

-GETTING IT DONE IN THE CLASSROOM (Sept. 22, 2013)
The University of Arkansas women’s golf team had a great season on the links and matched that with an outstanding season in the classroom in 2012-13.  As a result, the Razorback women’s golf team finished 10th in the country in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team GPA awards.  The award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA which includes all of the team’s student-athletes for the 12-13 season.

Last season, Arkansas finished with a 3.670 grade point average finishing 10th in the nation.  The Razorbacks posted a 3.78 gpa in the spring semester in the heart of the team’s competitive schedule.   Emma Lavy, Emily Podzielinski, Kayli Quinton and Victoria Vela paced the team with 4.00 gpa’s for the spring semester.  Quinton also had a 4.00 gpa in the fall in her first semester of college academics. The rest of the spring grades include a 3.73 for Oliva Lavy, 3.94 for Hally Leadbetter, 3.8 for Gabriela Lopez, 3.40 for Regina Plasencia, 3.36 for Meagan Roberts, and a 3.80 for Emily Tubert helping the team to a 3.804 gpa for the semester.  The Razorbacks were the second-highest ranking Southeastern Conference team and one of three teams in the top 25 who also competed at the NCAA Division I National Championship.

-WIN AT MERCEDES (Sept, 22, 2013)
University of Arkansas senior Emily Tubert posted back-to-back under par rounds leading the No. 18 Razorback women’s golf team to the title in the rain-shortened 17th Annual Mercedes Benz Collegiate in Knoxville, Tenn., last fall.  Arkansas shot 282-281 for 563 and the first team title of the season. Tubert, a Burbank, Calif., native, opened play with a 69 on Friday adding a 68 on Sunday for a 137 and a three-stroke win.  The Razorbacks were the only team under par for the tournament with rounds of 282-281=563, winning the event by eight strokes over second place.

-STACY LEWIS WIN BRITISH OPEN AND ESPY (Oct. 4, 2013)
Former University of Arkansas women's golfer Stacy Lewis fired an even par 72 in the final round of the Ricoh Women's British Open moving into lead on Sunday.  Lewis hung on to win despite a challenge by Na Yeon Choi who finished second.  Lewis, of The Woodlands, Texas, was three-back much of the day but back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 combined with bogeys by the leader, helped Lewy move up the leaderboard. Lewis shot 67-72-69-72=280 for the tournament.

Lewis went on a few short weeks later winning her first ESPY.
