LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Despite turning in two of the best rounds of the day out of the field of 84, Arkansas men’s golf senior Sebastian Cappelen and sophomore Taylor Moore finished the Patriot All-America held at The Wigwam Golf Course in a tie for third place and just one stroke out of advancing to a playoff.

The defending champion of the three-year-old event, Cappelen turned in a final round three-under 67 while Moore carded a two-under 68 to both finish at four-under for the week. With three holes to play, both Cappelen and Moore owned a share of the lead at five-under, but were unable to finish with that score that eventually resulted in a two-person playoff.

Cappelen and Moore made up two of the five players that shot even-par or lower all three rounds, but fell just one stroke short of Toni Hakula and Kyle Westmoreland at five-under.

Cappelen’s tournament featured rounds of one-under 69, even-par 70 and Tuesday’s three-under 67. In two appearances at the Patriot All-America, Cappelen has played The Wigwam Golf Course at 11-under par with all six rounds at even-par or lower. Coming off a tie for 21st in last year’s event, Moore responded with rounds of two-under 68, even-par 70 and two-under 68. The duo put up nearly identical numbers, as both had 11 birdies over the three rounds while Cappelen had 37 pars and Moore 36,

The field of 84 that included PING All-Americans from a year ago, top five finishers from last year’s event and AJGA All-America first team members that are now college freshmen. ESPN coverage of the 2013 Patriot All-America started with the Opening Ceremonies where the players were introduced with the bag they will carry during the tournament with the name of a fallen solder embroidered on the side pocket. MC of the proceedings was Brandel Chamblee of the Golf Channel.

Moore will now stay in Arizona to play in the inaugural Saguaro Amateur from January 3-5, at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, just south of the Phoenix metro area. The 54-hole event will consist of 108 amateur golfers from all over the U.S.
