MARICOPA, Ariz. – Just two days removed from finishing fourth at the Patriot All-America, Arkansas men’s golf sophomore Taylor Moore continued his hot play on Friday with a bogey-free five-under par 66 in the opening round of the Saguaro Amateur at Southern Dunes Golf Club just south of the Phoenix metro area.

Sitting in sole possession of third place just two strokes out of the lead, Moore is part of a field of 108 amateur golfers from all over the United States who are taking part in the inaugural event. The Saguaro Amateur was the idea of NCAA golf coaches Roy Edwards of Colorado and Joe Jensen of Wyoming.

Moore’s round on the 7,196-yard, par 71 course started with six straight pars before a birdie on the par 5 7th hole led to a 34 on the front. A birdie on the 412-yard, par 4 10th hole ignited a run of four birdies in the opening six holes on the back en route to a 32, the third-lowest score amongst the field.

Over his last 45 holes played this week in Arizona, which includes his final 27 at the Patriot All-America, Moore has carded 11 birdies and just two bogeys. He produced rounds of 68(-2), 70(E), and 68(-2) and the Patriot All-America last Sunday-Tuesday at The Wigwam Golf Course.

Moore will return to the course on Saturday at 8:20 a.m., going off the 10th hole. The 54-hole event concludes on Sunday. For more information on Arkansas men’s golf, follow @RazorbackMGolf on twitter.
