FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 11 University of Arkansas gymnastics team held its final intrasquad meet in Barnhill Arena Friday night to prepare for the upcoming 2014 season. The Razorbacks hit all 26 routines for the meet including two extra routines on the beam and the floor.

Senior All-American Katherine Grable collected four scores of 9.80 plus to score a 39.425 in the all-around and freshman Amanda Wellick scored a 9.90 on the floor to highlight the meet for the Razorbacks.

“Katherine is the best she has ever been right now,” co-head coach mark Cook said. “We have to keep her healthy throughout the season and she will have a shot at a National Championship this season. Amanda is a professional, we knew that when we were recruiting her, and she really showed us that tonight.”

Arkansas started out strong in the vault rotation with three scores of 9.80 or better. Senior Scarlett Williams recorded a 9.80 alongside Wellick in her first routine of the meet. Grable anchored the rotation with a 9.875.

“You definitely have to get the jitters out,” Cook said. “On vault and bars we did really well, we hit all of our routines. On beam, we were phenomenal. Our team is much improved on the beam and it will probably be our strongest event. This is a great starting point for us right now.”

Grable also added a 9.80 on the bars.

All-SEC performer Sydnie Dillard completed her beam routine to the score of a 9.80 to set the stage for a solid rotation. Grable added a 9.875 to complete the rotation for the Razorbacks.

Wellick nailed all four of her tumbling passes on the floor to record a 9.90, the highest score of the meet. Grable rounded out her all-around score with a 9.875 on the floor to finish the rotation.

The Razorbacks begin the season on Friday, Jan. 10, playing host to Western Michigan and Bridgeport in Barnhill Arena. The season opener is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
