FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 11 University of Arkansas gymnastics team is set to start the 2014 season and a run for the NCAA Championships for the eighth time in program history. The team will start the season in Barnhill Arena, hosting Western Michigan and Bridgeport at 7 p.m., on Fri. Jan., 10.

The Razorbacks return seven members from the 2013 campaign that reached the NCAA Championships for the sixth straight season. Returning from the squad are All-Americans Katherine Grable and Bailee Zumwalde, senior Shelby Salmon, sophomores Sydnie Dillard, Heather Elswick, Erin Freier and Keara Glover.

Also returning to the lineup this season is junior All-American Stephani Canizaro, senior Scarlett Williams and the Razorbacks welcome the addition of five newcomers in junior transfer Cailee Ellsworth, freshmen Emily Bates, Samantha Nelson, Paris Ryder and Amanda Wellick.

“We are excited to compete in front of our home crowd on Friday,” co-head coach René Lyst said. “We have been training really hard and we have had a lot of dress rehearsals up to this point where everything has gone really well. We are excited to get out there in front of real competition and get the job done and have a great time.”

In a special promotion for the meet, fans who show there men’s basketball ticket from the game against Florida will receive two dollar general admission ticket.

This will be the second time that the Razorbacks will face Bridgeport after picking up a victory in a quad meet in 2012 when the Razorbacks had a No. 1 national ranking. Also, this will be the first matchup against Western Michigan, a team that enters Fayetteville with a former Arkansas staff member as an assistant coach, Ralph Rosso.

Fans can follow along during the meet by watching the live video stream from RazorVision available on www.ArkansasRazorbacks.com. A live blog and live stats will also be available and for in-meet updates follow the team’s Twitter account @RazorbackGYM.
