FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- With the spring season less than a week away, the University of Arkansas women's tennis team and select student-athletes were honored with preseason rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Coming off of a successful fall campaign that featured plenty of individual success, the Razorbacks will open the spring season ranked No. 51 in that nation by the ITA. Arkansas ended at No. 52 in the country last season with a 13-9 record, including a 4-9 mark in SEC play.

Stanford begins the season No. 1, while Florida comes in at No. 2 and North Carolina No. 3. A total of six SEC teams were ranked in the top 25, including three in the top 10.

Individually, Yang Pang enters the spring ranked No. 71 in the country by the ITA. Pang finished last season at No. 56 in the ITA singles rankings after putting together a breakout freshman campaign with an 11-12 record. Pang was named to both the 2013 First Team All-SEC and 2013 All-SEC Rookie Team, also receiving SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the week of March 6, 2013. She also became just the second Razorback ever to be named Central Region Rookie of the Year by the ITA.

The Nanjing, China, native finished with a 7-4 singles record this past fall, including three wins over ranked opponents. Pang ended her fall by advancing all the way to the Sweet 16 of the singles main draw at the 2013 USTA/ITA Central Regional.

Pang was also ranked in doubles along with teammate Kimberley - Ann Surin at No. 46. Pang and Surin had a remarkable run at the 2013 USTA/ITA Central Regional Championship during the fall season, as the two paired up for the first time on the season and finished runner-up in the doubles final. The two Razorbacks combined for a 5-1 record on the weekend, including five straight wins in one day to reach the tournament final.

Freshman Shannon Hudson made a big splash in the fall season with a 7-2 record in singles, and as a result, she will begin the spring season ranked No. 115 in the country. The Virginia Beach, Va., native entered the Arkansas program ranked No. 18 in the tennis recruiting class of 2013.

Arkansas begins its spring season this weekend hosting Wichita State at the Billingsley Tennis Center on Jan. 19. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
