FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas forward Jessica Jackson
earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors the league office announced today. It is the third selection of her career.
Jackson, a Jacksonville, Ark., native, was tough in Arkansas’ two games last week scoring 55 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
She opened the week with a career-best 24 points helping the Razorbacks battle back from a 16-point deficit at Georgia on Thursday. She bettered that with 31 points and 10 rebounds for her third career double-double in a nail-biting win over Ole Miss Sunday.
Jackson was 11-for-22, both career highs, and scored her 31 points in 32 minutes. She hit a key three-pointer tying the game with under five minutes to play helping the Razorbacks rally for the win.
Jackson ranks sixth in the SEC and fourth in conference-only games with 16.4 points per game this season and is the only freshman in the top 10 in scoring. She is ninth in the SEC in field goal percentage shooting .439 and is 10th in free throw shooting hitting 78.9 percent from the line.
Jackson also ranks tied for 12th in the SEC in three-pointers made averaging 1.7 per contest and is sixth in the SEC with 1.6 blocks per game. Jackson has improved her rebounding in recent games and is tied for 11th in the SEC in defensive boards with 4.7 per contest.
Jackson and the Razorbacks have a bye with no game on Thursday. They return to the court Sunday at Kentucky in a noon tip. The game will air live on FOX Sports.
