FAYETTEVILLE - The 25th-ranked Arkansas baseball team held its preseason media day Friday with first pitch of the 2014 season just one week away.

Head coach Dave Van Horn held a press conference to start the event, and then media members were able to speak with the Razorbacks' assistant coaches and student-athletes.

Coach Van Horn spoke about the excitement around the upcoming season opener and the differences with this year's team.

"I know the players are very excited to get the season rolling," Coach Van Horn said. "There are a lot of new faces and you will probably see a different style team. I think athletically we are a little better. Offensively I feel like we are going to be better, and time will tell. I think more than anything the guys are excited to play somebody other than themselves."

Coach Van Horn also discussed the benefits of the season-opening weekend series against Appalachian State.

"Appalachian State is an outstanding team," Coach Van Horn said. "Very rarely do I have coaches call me and say, 'Hey what are you doing opening weekend?' and that is what they did. They usually don't do that unless they feel like they have an experienced team and returning pitching. We are doing everything we can to get a good scouting report on them, and that is exactly what we are facing. I am kind of intrigued. It is going to be a very tough weekend and we will be able to gauge real quick where we are and what we need to improve on."

Arkansas opens its season Feb. 14 with the first of a three-game weekend series at home against Appalachian State. The Razorbacks and Mountaineers play at 3:05 p.m. Friday, 12:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online, at the Razorback Ticket Center or over the phone by calling 800-982-HOGS (4647) between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
