FAYETTEVILLE – Two Arkansas swimmers achieved three career-best swims during the preliminary heats of the Virginia Tech Invite on Saturday.
Senior Molly Milborn
(Fishers, Ind.) earned a ticket to tonight’s final in the 200-yard freestyle, besting her fastest time by 0.58 seconds and finishing in seventh place with a time of 1:55.29.
Sophomore Rebekah Porter
(The Woodlands, Texas) dropped 0.79 seconds off her personal-best time in the 100 breaststroke to finish ninth in 1:08.53. Porter also shaved 0.31 seconds off her best time in the 50 freestyle to finish in ninth place with a time of 24.59.
Sophomore Jordan Kimmey
(Flower Mound, Texas) qualified for the finals of the 500 freestyle by placing third with a time of 5:08.09. The time was just 0.05 off her personal-best finish earned earlier this season at the Missouri Invitational.
Sophomore Rachel Kessler
(New Rochelle, N.Y.) rounded out Arkansas’ qualifiers for tonight’s finals by placing second in the prelims of the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:29.95.
Senior Lizzy Whitbeck
(Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Kessler both achieved season-best times in the 100 butterfly prelims. Whitbeck placed 11th with a time of 57.62, cutting 0.55 seconds off her time earlier this season at the Mizzou Invite. Kessler finished with a time of 59.13, improving from her 1:01.69 against Nebraska in October.
