FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ten of the nation’s top-25 teams gathered at Randal Tyson Track Center Friday as the No. 1 Razorbacks wrapped up day one of the Tyson Invitational. Day one of competition was complete with a stellar performance by Neil Braddy and Raymond Higgs, accompanied by several new personal records. Arkansas is closing in on the final regular-season competition leading up to the Southeastern Conference and NCAA Championships.

Braddy set the pace early in the meet, finishing the 400-meter dash in a personal record 45.96, beating his previous PR of 46.03. His time ranks second all-time at Arkansas and fourth in the NCAA this season. Travis Southard’s seventh-place finish of 46.71 was a personal best for the senior, taking down his previous record of 46.77 set at the SEC Championships in 2013.

Higgs and Jarrion Lawson added to the Razorback’s impressive performance on day one. Higgs and Lawson entered the weekend with the No. 3 and No. 4 marks in the nation, respectively. Both delivered as fans watched Higgs claim the top mark in the NCAA this season with 26-2.75, ranking eighth all-time at Arkansas. Lawson attempted to surpass his teammate, coming up just short for a second-place finish with 25-9.5, second-best in his career and fifth-best in the nation.

After setting a new triple jump PR last weekend at the New Mexico Invitational, freshman Clive Pullen achieved a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 23-7.5. The mark improves on his previous PR of 23-5.5 set at the Razorback Invitational earlier this season.

Patrick Rono finished with a season-best in the 800-meter championship run with a second-place finish in 1:47.96, ranking fourth in the nation and just shy of his personal best. Tomas Squella's time of 1:48.70 was his best time this season, good for a third-place finish in the 800m.

Freshman Larry Donald stepped up to lead the Razorbacks in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.24, qualifying for the semifinals. Improving his finishing time to 8.13 in the semifinals, Donald just missed the qualifying mark for the finals.

Day two of the Tyson Invitational will continue on Saturday at noon at Randal Tyson Track Center.

Up in Seattle, Washington the No. 1 Razorbacks had Solomon Haile post a time of 14:03.08, second-best time of his career. Gabe Gonzalez finished in 14:03.80 in his first time competing in the event.
