Seven Personal Records Drop During Wednesday Prelims

ATHENS, Ga. - Seven individuals broke personal records during Arkansas’ showing in Wednesday’s prelims of the SEC Championships at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. Broken personal records included a new Arkansas school record in the 50-yard freestyle by junior Susanna White (Forest, Va.). Six Razorbacks will be returning for finals the finals this evening. 

White led Arkansas in the 50 freestyle with a school-record time and NCAA ‘B’ cut of 22.44. She was followed closely by sophomore Nina Drolc (Velenje, Slovenia) who finished the race with a season-best time and NCAA ‘B’ cut of 22.73. Drolc’s time ties for the fourth-fastest time in the Arkansas record books. Sophomore Maddie Monroe (Godfrey, Ill.) and senior Shelby Cox (Little Rock, Ark.) also recorded personal-best times in the 50 freestyle.

Five Razorback swimmers qualified for tonight’s finals in the 500-yard freestyle and four picked up NCAA ‘B’ cut times in their swims. Junior Anna Mayfield (San Antonio, Texas) and senior Nicole Menzel (Hilton Head, S.C.) led the team in the event placing 14th and 15th, respectively. Menzel’s 4:45.21 marked her season-best time. Freshman Aiden Lister (Toowoomba, Australia) dropped a whopping 11.65 seconds off her personal-best time, earning 17th place and an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 4:46.41 to win her heat. Junior Lauren Jordan (Carmel, Ind.) also recorded a season-best time of 4:47.22, good for 19th place. Sophomore Rachel Stoehr rounded out Arkansas’ qualifiers for tonight’s finals by placing 24th with a time of 4:48.11. Additionally, senior Julia Kucherich (York, Pa.) recorded a personal-best time of 4:52.41 in the event.

Two freshmen recorded personal-best times in the 200 individual medley prelims. Sarah Easterling (Cumberland, Maine) recorded a time of 2:05.19, shaving 0.76 seconds off her previous best time. Anna Williams (Naperville, Ill.) finished the race with a time of 2:08.48, improving her best time by 2.40 seconds. 

Finals will begin at 5 p.m. Live streaming of the finals sessions will be available beginning at 5 p.m. Links to the live streams will be posted at ArkansasRazorbacks.com as they become available before competition.
