– University of Arkansas Track and Field standouts Makeba Alcide and Kevin Lazas have been announced as top finalists for the Arkansas Star of Tomorrow Award, presented by the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Crain Automotive Team. The award is presented annually to the top college athlete from either an Arkansas-based college or university, or an out-of-state school if that athlete is from Arkansas.
Alcide played a pivotal part in the Razorback’s run to the 2013 NCAA Championships, setting the school heptathlon record with 6,050 points. Alcide also holds the collegiate record in the pentathlon, along with both the indoor and outdoor Arkansas record in high jump. She is a four-time SEC Champion and eight time All-American. In addition to her career with the Razorbacks, Alcide competed in the 2013 World Championships in Russia last year.
Lazas is the 2013 NCAA Heptathlon Champion, his score of 6,175 makes Lazas the No. 3 scorer in collegiate history and represents the No. 4 all-time collegiate score. Lazas is also the Arkansas school record holder in the heptathlon and ranks third all-time at Arkansas in pole vault.

The Star of Tomorrow Award will be presented during the Hall of Fame induction banquet on Friday, February 28 at the Statehouse Convention Center in North Little Rock.
