FAYETTEVILLE – Senior All-American Katherine Grable is one of the six finalists for the 2014 AAI Award. The honor is given annually to the top senior student-athlete in NCAA Division I women's gymnastics. The winner will be announced at the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships awards banquet next month in Birmingham, Ala.

An Oshkosh, Wis. Native, Grable holds the school record in the all-around at 39.725 and has matched it on the beam with a 9.95 in the NCAA Championships in 2012. Grable has been influential in helping the University of Arkansas gymnastics team set and reach many program milestones. She was an all-arounder for the squad when it reached its first national No. 1 ranking as well as being the first gymnast in program history to be ranked No. 1 in the all-around competition as a sophomore. Also during her sophomore season, she helped the team finish fifth in the nation at the NCAA Super Six, the team’s highest finish to date. Grable has also tied former All-American teammate and 2012 SEC Gymnast of the Year Jaime Pisani’s record of 11 scores of 9.95 on the floor for a career.

Currently, Grable has matched her career-best mark in the all-around to tie her school record that she shares with Pisani. In that meet where she tied her school record, Grable also swept all five of the event titles for the first time in her career. Grable has been ranked as high as first place this season as an overall gymnast and currently is ranked No. 2. Grable has also won eight all-around and floor titles in nine meets this season. In addition to her all-around and floor titles, Grable has also collected four vault titles, three on the beam and one on the bars. In total, her career titles add up to 70 as she nears the final post-season of her career. Grable has also counted 100 percent of her routines this season for her team.

Grable has collected numerous honors during her career as a Gymback including six All-American honors being a three-time member of an All-SEC team and reaching the event finals three separate times during her career. She has also been awarded the team’s most outstanding gymnast award in each of her three seasons on the team.

The rest of the finalists include Kim Jacob from Alabama, Alaina Johnson from Florida, Joanna Sampson from Michigan, Emily Wong from Nebraska and Taylor Spears from Oklahoma.

The Razorbacks return home to Barnhill Arena on Friday, March 14, for senior night against Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Arkansas will honor seniors Katherine Grable, Shelby Salmon, Scarlett Williams and Bailee Zumwalde.
