FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 15 University of Arkansas gymnastics team will compete in Session I of the 2014 Southeastern Conference Championship as the No. 6 seed on Saturday, March 22, in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Session I is slated for a 2:05 p.m. (CT) start.

“We are excited to compete in the SEC Championship this weekend,” co-head coach Mark Cook said. “Our objective is to go into the meet and win our session. This is a fantastic meet and just as exciting if not more than the national championships.”

Session I of the SEC Championship will feature seeds No. 5 through No. 8 in the conference. No. 12 Auburn is the 5th seeded team, Kentucky as the No. 7 seed and Missouri as the No. 8 seed. The seeds for the meet are based on the final Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) which were released Monday morning.

The Razorbacks will begin the meet on the bars and then follow Olympic order for the final three rotations before finishing on the vault. Auburn will begin the meet on vault, Kentucky will begin on the beam and Missouri on the floor.

Arkansas brings the No. 3 gymnast in the country in senior All-American Katherine Grable who just collected a share of her third school-record on the floor of 9.975 on senior night and is now tied with former All-American teammate and 2012 SEC Gymnast of the Year Jaime Pisani with 12 scores of 9.95 or better on the floor. Grable has won the all-around and floor titles in nine of the Razorbacks ten meets this season. Last year at the SEC Championship, Grable won both the all-around and floor competition in the Razorbacks’ session. Grable set the third-best score in program history at the meet with a 39.375, as well as the program-best score on the floor of 9.925 and third-best vault of 9.875.

Arkansas also returns two gymnasts that were named to the 2013 All-SEC Freshman Team in sophomores Sydnie Dillard and Keara Glover. Dillard led the Razorbacks’ beam rotation with a 9.875 which stands as the fourth-best score for the event in program history at the SEC Championship. Glover was the first gymnast up on the bars for the session and scored a 9.80 to earn her honors.

Senior Bailee Zumwalde also reached the top-10 list at the SEC Championships in 2013 with the seventh-best mark on the floor with a 9.875. Fellow senior Shelby Salmon reached the top-10 list in 2012 on the bars with a 9.825 mark good for the seventh-best score at the meet.
