BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior All-American Katherine Grable was named the 2014 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Gymnast of the Year after a vote of the league’s coaches.

“We are really proud of Katherine,” co-head coach Mark Cook said. “She has worked extremely hard this year. Shea has counted her score for us on every event and every routine this season. This is a great honor for her and I am really glad and thankful for the other coaches in the league to recognize her.”

Grable started her season on fire, winning the first five all-around competitions of the season and finished with nine all-around titles in the Razorbacks ten regular-season meets. Grable has also been ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation this season and is currently the No. 3 gymnast in the country with a season RQS average of 39.610 on the season. Grable matched has also matched her career-best and school record mark in the all-around of 39.725 which she shares with former All-American teammate and 2012 SEC Gymnast of the Year Jaime Pisani.

“I am super excited for Katherine to be recognized as the SEC Gymnast of the Year,” co-head coach Rene Lyst said. “I think she has proven herself this season week in and week out as being one of the best gymnast in the country.”

Grable has also added a share of her third school-record this season after scoring a 9.975 on the floor to collect her ninth floor title of the season. In addition to her 18 titles in the all-around and floor, Grable has collected four vault titles, three beam titles and one title on the bars to bring her season total to 26 event titles.

Grable has also matched her career highs this season two times on the vault, three times on the bars and once in the all-around and she has also counted 100 percent of her routines this season.

Previously, the Razorbacks have earned two conference gymnast of the year honors. Michelle Stout was named the 2011 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In 2012, Pisani was named the SEC Gymnast of the Year.

Grable and the Razorbacks will compete in the 2014 SEC Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m., in Birmingham, Ala.
