MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Razorbacks swam in five events during the second day of the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. The team clocked three swims that registered as top five times in the Arkansas record book. Arkansas has five events remaining during the final day of competition on Saturday, part of a record 13 events over the course of the championship meet.

“We know as a team we need to be better,” head coach Sean Schimmel said. “We are staying focused and looking to make something happen in session five tomorrow.”
Arkansas began the day with a 27th-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of sophomore Anna Mayfield (San Antonio, Texas), juniors Nikki Daniels (Wichita, Kan.) and Susanna White (Forest, Va.), and sophomore Nina Drolc (Velenje, Slovenia) clocked a time of 1:39.26. The time registered as the fifth-fastest in program history.

White led off for Arkansas in individual events, posting a time of 53.85 in the 100 butterfly. The swim was the fourth-fastest finish in Arkansas history and White now holds the top four times in the event in the Arkansas record book.

Daniels achieved 17th place and a spot as the first alternate in the 100 breaststroke final with a time of 1:00.17. Her swim was followed by a performance from Mayfield who clocked a 54.57 in the 100 backstroke.

Arkansas ended the day by recording a 7:10.57 in the 800 freestyle relay. Sophomore Maddie Monroe (Godfrey, Ill.), Mayfield, junior Lauren Jordan (Carmel, Ind.) and senior Nicole Menzel (Hilton Head, S.C.) swam the second-fastest time in program history.

The team will return to the pool on Saturday with competitors in five events to close competition. Mayfield will compete in the 200 backstroke, White will swim in the 100 freestyle, Daniels will appear in the 200 breaststroke and Menzel will compete in the 1,650 freestyle.
