PALM CITY, Fla. – Despite four of five players carding at least one round of even-par or lower on the day, the No. 19 Arkansas men’s golf team couldn’t quite keep pace with the low scores by the competitive 15-team field on Monday at the Valspar Invitational at The Floridian as it sits in 13th place after 36 holes.

Redshirt senior William Meason finished the day in a tie for 14th overall as Arkansas’ low-man with rounds of even-par 71 and three-under 68. The Razorbacks opened the day with a four-man score of one-under 283 and finished up with a 286 in the afternoon despite Meason’s 68 which was the ninth-lowest round in the second round.

No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 4 Georgia Tech lead the 15-team field that features 13 teams in Golfstat’s top 50. The Cowboys and Yellow Jackets finished the day 14-under par while the top five are all at least 10-under.

Meason’s day began with an even-par 71 before playing his final 14 holes of the afternoon five-under par with no bogeys en route to a season-low 68. His 10 birdies on the day were a team-high, while he played the par 3s, par 4s and par 5s under-par. Senior Sebastian Cappelen and sophomore Taylor Moore each finished the day one-over in a tie for 40th place. Cappelen used three birdies in his final four holes of round one to shoot one-under 70 before following with a 73. Like Cappelen, Moore closed his morning round strong by playing his final six holes four-under to shoot even-par. In the afternoon, Moore was as low as three-under but finished with a solid one-over 72.

Coming off his first top 20 of the year in his last outing, redshirt sophomore Kolton Crawford was the fourth Arkansas counting score of par or lower in the first round with a 71 before shooting a 76 in round two. Sophomore Nicolas Echavarria played his final five holes of round one at four-under to shoot a 74 and followed up with a 73.

The Razorbacks will return to the course for Tuesday’s final round at 7:30 a.m. playing alongside Florida and Lamar. Live scoring of the event is available at www.GolfStat.com or www.ArkansasRazorbacks.com in the men’s golf schedule.  Monday’s first round is a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
