FAYETTEVILLE -- The University of Arkansas women's golf team is in the midst of the spring championship schedule.  Four events are in the books and the fourth-ranked Razorbacks are looking ahead to the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., next weekend.

We pause this week to get to know one of the team members just a little bit better.  Hope you enjoy this Q&A with sophomore Gabriela Lopez.

What is your favorite club or golf shot and why?
No doubt, my favorite club is my driver. My distance gives me the opportunity to have a short club to attack the pin and score low.  However, my favorite golf shot is a "cut" or fade. By doing this, I feel that I have the power to control the ball and make the ball move in any direction I want.

What is your favorite hole to play at Blessings and why?
I can`t decide which is my favorite hole. However, I believe that this golf course has beautiful and challenging par 3's holes. Every single one of them requires attention and accuracy to at least hit the green in regulation. In my opinion, hole number 17 is the most demanding of all; simply, the view from the back tees increases the challenge.

What makes the University of Arkansas and the Razorback women’s golf team special?
I have uncountable reasons why this place is so special to me. But, the most important reason is that all the people that surround me (my coaches, teammates and friends) have taught me the value to call this place my second HOME. We have a very special team, we all get along together very well. Likewise, Shauna and Mike always have the right words to encourage us to work hard, to help each other, and to build a family. Every day I realize that attending to the U of A has been the best decision of my life.

What is something not very many people know about you?
My team calls me "Pollo", which means chicken in English.

What would you do if you didn’t play golf?
If I didn't play golf, I would be competing in another sport in Mexico or in the US.

What are your plans after graduation/what is your major?
I want to get my degree in Communications and a minor in Sports Management and after I would like to reach my lifetime goal: be the #1 golfer in the world.
