FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas senior Emma Lavy leads the fourth-ranked Razorback women’s golf team into the postseason this weekend as she takes part in her final SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., Friday-Sunday.

Lavy, who has had a solid senior season, has helped the Razorbacks to a program-best No. 4 ranking in the Golfstat.com rankings.  It is the first time in program history the Razorbacks have been the highest-ranked team in the SEC Championship field.

We chatted with Lavy before the tournament and here is her take on the upcoming competition.

What is your mindset heading into the SEC Championship?
I think my mindset is to treat this same as any other tournament.  I don’t want to think about it being my last SEC Championship or that I am a senior.  I just want to play my best and see what happens.

You return this year to a golf course (Greystone Club, River Course) that you have seen before at last year’s SEC Championship.  What kind of advantage is that?
It’s a big advantage especially on this golf course.  It’s one that is good to have played a few times and to see where you want to be.  I can think about it and prepare for it which is a huge advantage.  I’m excited about that. In practice you can go out and hit some shots that you need to hit to prepare for that.

You are the top-ranked SEC team.  Does that change your approach at all?
I actually just realized that.  It doesn’t change the approach at all.  It’s nice that we have that recognition as the best time because I believe that we are, but we have to do what we do each week and that is play to our ability.  If we do that, we will come out where we should.

What are your goals going into SEC’s?
I really want to have fun and stay in the moment and if I do that, I’ll play well.  I think we can win but the only way we can do that is to play like we do at every other tournament and stay within ourselves.  If we can do that, then no problem.
