FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – Following the completion of regular-season outdoor competition, the University of Arkansas women’s track and field team moves up a spot to No. 8 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Rankings, as released Tuesday.

Florida moves into the No. 1 spot, followed by the Longhorns of Texas at No. 2 and Oregon at No. 3. The next five spots are occupied by the Southeastern Conference, starting with Texas A&M at No. 4. Kentucky moves up to No. 5 and Georgia comes at No. 6 this week. LSU is in the No. 7 position, just ahead of the No. 8 Razorbacks. The SEC owns six of the top 10 ranking spots. This past weekend was a successful outing for the No. 8 Razorbacks, starting Friday with the Arkansas Twilight at John McDonnell Field. Danielle Nowell highlighted the field events at the Arkansas Twilight, as she cleared 14-0.5 to become just the second Southeastern Conference pole vaulter to clear 14-feet, behind fellow Razorback Sandi Morris. It marks the first 14-foot clearance for Nowell during outdoor season, taking down her previous outdoor PR of 13-11.25 recorded at the John McDonnell Invitational earlier this season. Her mark ranks No. 9 in NCAA this season.

At the Payton Jordan Invitational on Sunday, Grace Heymsfield broke the school record, which she owned, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in. It marked her first steeplechase event of the season and only her third meet overall. The senior shaved nearly four seconds off of her previous record with a runner-up finish in 9:53.65 and earned SEC Runner of the Week for her performance. Heymsfield originally broke the school steeplechase record last season with a 9:57.18 finish at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. She stands as the only Razorback to ever break the 10-minute mark in the steeplechase.

The No. 8 Razorbacks will take a weekend off in preparation for the SEC Championships May 15-18 in Lexington, Ky. For more information on Razorback Track and Field, follow @RazorbackTF on Twitter.
