Rolex Rankings No. 2 Stacy Lewis put herself in perfect position to win this week at the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer and to have a chance at taking over the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. The American shot the low round of the day with a bogey-free 8-under 63 in gusty conditions at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club. She tied the 36-hole course and tournament record with a two-day total 12-under 130.

Fellow American and two-time LPGA Tour winner Christina Kim (64-67, -11) trails Lewis by one shot. First-round leader Jennifer Johnson (62-70, -10) sits in solo third and two shots back.

Lewis will be eyeing up her 10th career victory and second win in her last four starts. She won the event two years ago in 2012 and would become the fourth multi winner of the event. She would join Juli Inkster (1986, 1988), Betsy King (1987, 1995, 2001) and Annika Sorenstam (1998, 2002) as players to have won the event twice.

“I got off to a better start, but the first nine holes yesterday I just was uncomfortable over the ball,” said Lewis. “Alignment was kind of messed up the last few rounds, and kind of started to figure it out throughout the day yesterday, and it definitely felt a lot better today.  Hit a ball a lot more solid, didn’t have to make as many par putts, and it was just a lot easier overall.”

Lewis said she made some adjustments on her alignment and ended up making all of the difference.

“I mean, I know my tendencies,” said Lewis. “My tendencies are for my feet to get closed.  I do it all the time, and you wish you could figure out some way to not do it.  That’s the tendency.  To do it, my feet at the
moment feel pretty open, which is hard, because I feel like I’m going to hook the ball a lot.  So that was yesterday.  I had to just get comfortable.”
