FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – University of Arkansas women’s track and field head coach Lance Harter was named South Central Region Coach of the Year, as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.

“Any time that you’re recognized by your peers on the effort that your coaching staff and your athletes put together is a great honor,” said Harter. “It’s an award that you accept on behalf of your assistants and athletes that make it possible.”

Harter led the 2014 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Champions to their first outdoor conference championship in a decade, earning SEC Women’s Head Coach of the Year. Harter coached the SEC Champion Razorbacks to a 1-2-3 finish in the 5K to clinch in the SEC Title, and guided three individual SEC Champions in Diane Robison (5K), Dominique Scott (10K) and Grace Heymsfield (steeplechase).

Under Harter’s guidance, the No. 7 Razorbacks qualified 17 total individuals to the NCAA Championships, the second most qualifiers in the nation. Harter coached Stephanie Brown to the No. 1 spot in the nation in the 1,500-meter. In total, Harter coaches six athletes ranked in the top 20 in the nation

The No. 7 Razorbacks are in Eugene, Ore. for the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships June 11-14, competing for the National Title.

“We’re healthy, we’re excited and we’re well-prepared for the competition that we will see this week,” said Harter. “This is that rare opportunity in life where all your hard work has the opportunity to make an athlete’s dream come true.”

The South Central Region Coach of the Year award marks the 18th for Harter in his career with the Razorbacks. For more information on Razorback Track and Field, follow @RazorbackTF on Twitter.
