FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas women’s track and field and cross country teams finished third in the 2014 Terry Crawford Division I Program of the Year standings, presented by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding cross country/track & field programs in each of the NCAA’s three divisions for each gender.

“I think it is extra special that we can have that high of a cumulative finish in all three sports (indoor/outdoor/cross country), as that becomes more and more of a rare commodity,” said Head Coach Lance Harter. “We were third last year and third this year, missing second place by half a point. It shows the caliber of programs that are trying to be recognized in the national rankings.”

In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships.  Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.

Arkansas finished among the top ten at both the indoor and outdoor championships with sixth- and ninth-place results, respectively, to go along with a 15th-place finish during cross country.

In addition, the Razorbacks won the Southeastern Conference cross country and outdoor track and field titles. Following the team's success this season, Harter was named SEC Head Coach of the Year and South Central Region Head Coach of the Year.
