ROGERS, Ark. – Women’s professional golf is a fixture in the state of Arkansas, joining the Razorbacks at one of their home courses - Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. Located in the northwest portion of The Natural State, Pinnacle Country Club hosts an international field of LPGA Tour professionals at the Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship presented by P&G at Pinnacle Country Club. The week-long championship included a variety of community events, Pro-Am play and three days of LPGA competition.

The Razorbacks are currently the only Southeastern Conference team whose course is hosting an LPGA event this year and are one of just a handful of major college programs with an event one their home courses.

In addition, the Razorbacks compete all season to qualify for two of the Monday play-in spots for the championship and Arkansas student-athletes have often been among those players selected to receive a sponsor’s exemption to play in the tournament.

This year, junior Regina Plasencia and sophomore Summar Roachell will both participate in the Monday qualifier playing 18 holes of stroke play.  The top two players from Monday’s event, move on to play Friday.

Current Razorback junior Gabriela Lopez and former Razorbacks Emily Tubert and Stacy Lewis will all play in the weekend event.  Lopez and Tubert both received sponsor’s exemptions and will test their game against the world’s best players, most notably former Razorback Lewis.

Players will play 18 holes of stroke play on Friday and Saturday before the field is cut for Sunday’s final.

The LPGA first came to Pinnacle Country Club in 2007 and Lewis blasted out of the gates in the rain-soaked first round taking the lead.  Heavy rains forced the cancellation of the event and, although they gave Lewis the trophy, it was not considered an official tournament.

The following year, Lewis received an exemption and Lucy Nunn and Kristin Ingram were invited to participate in the Monday qualifier.  Lewis finished 49th that year.

In 2009, Nunn received the exemption and Ingram and Kelli Shean were invited to the Monday qualifier.  Shean moved on to play in the tournament but did not make the cut after the first two rounds.  Lewis was 21st overall.

Shean received the exemption in 2010 with Corinna Rees and Victoria Vela playing on Monday.  Lewis tied for ninth that year. In 2011, Emma Lavy and Vela played on Monday with Emily Tubert playing on the exemption.  Tubert tied for 48th overall.

In 2012, Tubert again played on the exemption while Lavy took part in the qualifier.  Tubert didn’t make the cut and Lewis tied for 19th that year.

Last year, Gabriela Lopez received the exemption while Lavy and incoming freshman Roachell played in the qualifier.  Lopez did not make the cut and Lewis tied for fourth overall.
