FAYETTEVILLE – This time last month, the University of Arkansas volleyball team was in the midst of its European tour that took the team to four countries during the 13-day trip. The Razorbacks made visits to Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic and played six matches against international competition in preparation of the upcoming season.
Among the many sights seen and visited in Europe, the Razorbacks’ trip included a tour of Castello Sforzesco in Milan, Italy; dinner and ropes course atop the Pohorje Mountains in Maribor, Slovenia; swimming in the Adriatic Sea in Split, Croatia; and cross the St. Charles Bridge in Prague, Czech Republic. The team’s trip to Split doubled as a visit to sophomore Barbara Dapic’s hometown.
Arkansas’ competition schedule featured matches against Club Italia, Slovenian Junior National Team, OK Brda, Olymp Praha and Chinese Junior National Team. The Razorbacks were led through the team by Bring It Promotions tour guide Kiki Kocar, a professional volleyball player in Europe. Under Kiki’s urging to experience the trip to its fullest, the Razorbacks adopted her “Be European” motto.
Earlier this month, the team announced its 2014 schedule which begins Aug. 29 against Tennessee State on day one of the Arkansas Invitational at Barnhill Arena. The schedule features 14 matches against nine teams that advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament. Arkansas enters the year off back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. Season tickets are now available starting at $40 and purchase includes a free knit hat.
