Wednesday was a hectic day in the main print room at SEC Football Media Days. By the time the schedule came to an end around 4 p.m., six speakers had taken the main stage with nine other student-athletes interviewed on the three secondary stages.

From SEC Coordinator of Officials Steve Shaw to ESPN Senior Vice President and SEC Network head Justin Connolly, the Wynfrey ballroom was a reservoir of valuable information covering a myriad of topics.

The last to step to the podium on Wednesday was Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema. This was Bielema's second trip to the annual SEC Media Days extravaganza after taking over the Razorbacks prior to the 2013 season. Coach Bielema didn't dwell on last season, in fact, he paused only briefly for a few seconds for comedic effect after saying he would recap last year. Instead Bielema spent most of the 30-minute session providing insight to his core philosophies and providing the principles he is building his Razorback program upon.

For many in the room and on national television, they are still learning about Coach Bielema, the man and the coach. Bielema clearly understands and acknowledged the need to win games and have success on the field, but he also shared some of the signs he believes are pointing the Razorbacks in the right direction.

"As close as we are, the proof is going to be in our pudding in every aspect of our program," Bielema said. "If you sat down and interviewed my AD, I think he would tell you in every aspect other than wins, or people that are inside our program on a daily basis, you can't do anything but be happy with what we've done. We've increased GPA, accountability, our APR. We were very close to becoming ineligible for bowl activity because of APR when I took over."

"All those things are skyrocketing," Bielema continued. "Our community service. Our kids aren't getting into trouble. Off-the field issues. We're doing positive things that lead me to believe they're learning and understanding what we're asking them to do. When that thing comes full circle, we're going to start to win. When we win, it's going to be able to maintain a winning style than this other thing that we've been living through."

Representing the Razorbacks
Coach Bret Bielema selected seniors Brey Cook, Trey Flowers and Alan Turner as the Razorbacks' student-athlete representatives for 2014 SEC Football Media Days. Since Arkansas entered the league in 1992, the Razorbacks have selected football student-athletes to participate. From 1992 to 2009, two student-athletes were part of the program. Beginning in 2010, three student-athletes were included. Below is a list of the Razorback football student-athletes who have participated.

Les is More in Austin
While Wednesday's interview docket only included three coaches, it was rich in content. Coach Bielema was diplomatic, but held firm when questioned about his beliefs on player safety and the type of individuals he would allow to transfer to his program. Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel shared an insightful answer on how the national attention surrounding Michael Sam's culturally groundbreaking announcement regarding his sexual orientation had impacted the Mizzou program.

But once again, LSU head coach Les Miles provided more than his fair share of moments of must-see TV including a couple of exchanges not likely not to end up as an endorsement on the Austin, Texas Chamber of Commerce website.

"The Miles family, Smacker Miles, I took a vacation, I went to Austin, took my three children with me, so we had six, two parents and four children on that campus. It was miserable. I hated it. But it was great fun. I mean, it was not a beach, it was not sand, but it was my family and that was the best."

Later in the session, a reporter from the Austin American-Statesman playfully chided Miles with why he hated Austin so much. That launched Miles into another priceless exchange about the capital of Texas and home to the University of Texas.

"Oh, no, no, no. It was just not vacation. I loved it. My daughter's doing wonderfully there. I enjoy the experience she's having, okay? But it was not the beach. There was not hotel that I walked out and jumped into the surf. But the great news is, as a family, we did some things we never would have done. I'm glad you asked that question," which drew laughter from the crowd.

"We rented bikes. It just happened to rain like hell. There was a bunch of hills down there. I want you to know something. As a father, I'm watching the kids going down this hill. I promise you, some of the experiences I had there, I'll not have again."

Good thing the SEC Network is coming August 14, I'm not sure this is an episode the Longhorn Network would be interested in.

Mock Selections
Questions remain about the upcoming College Football Playoff. How will the committee, led by Jeff Long, go about selecting the teams for the four-team playoff? How will the other bowls be filled? What criteria is being used to determine those teams?

In an attempt to provide further information to help clear up misconceptions, College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock spent approximately 40 minutes taking media members through a College Football Playoff 101 and then showing them three mock selections processes on Wednesday.

While it is unlikely that it cleared up all scenarios, it did provide a glimpse of the extremely thoughtful and complicated process the CFP committee will go through to identify the four top teams in the nation. The good news is that after the presentation there was no pop quiz and we are not far away from putting hypotheticals to bed in exchange for a true playoff system.

And oh by the way, if Arkansas ends up facing Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl, as it did in one of the hypothetical projections used for Wednesday's exercise, I think Razorback fans would be more than happy with the College Football Playoff.

What About Bob?
An Arkansas sportswriter made headlines deep in the heart of Alabama on Wednesday. In a twist of irony, the author of thousands of articles on the Razorbacks, Dallas Cowboys and nearly every sport you can imagine was on the other side of the process. Anyone who knows Bob Holt of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette knows that he does have an insatiable appetite for information. His friendly and memorable question and answer exchanges with Razorback coaches including Nolan Richardson, Danny Ford, Houston Nutt, Mike Anderson and John McDonnell are legendary.

But it was Michael Casagrande of Al.com who was asking the questions this time around for a feature story and photo gallery on the veteran Arkansas sportswriter. Often the target of some good-natured ribbing, the truth is that Bob is a thorough reporter who asks solid questions that fans want to know. He does so in a way that doesn't come across as accusatory or inflammatory to the subject of his questioning. In a world of some that want their question to be the story, Bob is a pro at allowing the subject to speak, even if it requires a couple of follow up questions to get them to say something he can use.
