HOUSTON, Texas - The Razorbacks were undefeated at day two of play at the Houston Cougar Invitational, advancing to the finals in doubles and earning a singles victory. Continuing their strong play, freshmen Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez and Kristen Mee earned a victory for the second consecutive day.
By virtue of a strong 8-2 win over Texas State's duo of Berenice Van den Bergh and Francesa Bernes, Belmar Hernandez and Mee advanced to Sunday's finals of their doubles flight. In the doubles final, the team will match up against Rice's Daniela Trigo and Leah Fried.
Arkansas also earned a singles win on Saturday. Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez persevered through three sets, and defeated Oregon's Sofia Hager 6-3, 1-6, 10-8.
"We definitely took a step forward today," head coach Michael Hegarty said. "At this stage, it is all about quality match play. Hopefully tomorrow we can end the fall competitive season on a high note."
Play will conclude on Sunday, beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CST). Mee, who had her singles match postponed on Saturday due to thunderstorms, will face Denver's Michelle Garpenlov. In her final match of the tournament, Belmar Hernandez will play singles against Texas State's Melissa Hadad.
