FAYETTEVILLE - Bolstered by a successful post-season run by the Razorback baseball team, the University of Arkansas earned its first top 10 finish in the Capital One Cup. The Razorbacks earned 69 points to finish eighth nationally in the 2011-12 men's cup standings on the heels of top 10 national finishes by baseball, football and men's indoor and outdoor track and field.

The Capital One Cup is awarded annually to each of the best men's and women's Division I college athletics programs in the country. Points toward the Capital One Cup are earned and tracked throughout the year based on final standings of NCAA Championships and final official coaches' polls.

"Congratulations to all of our teams who earned top 10 national finishes this season," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "Competing in the Southeastern Conference prepares you for post-season competition and our teams responded by turning in some great post-season performances. Our goal will continue to be to prepare student-athletes to compete for SEC and NCAA championships."

Arkansas earned 30 points for its No. 3 baseball ranking in the final USA Today/Coaches poll after finishing tied for third at the College World Series. The baseball team finished the season with a 46-22 record and won the Houston Regional and the Waco Super Regional before advancing to Omaha for the second time in four years. The Razorback football team tallied 18 points for their No. 5 final national ranking. It was the first top-five final national ranking for Arkansas since the 1977 season. Arkansas was 11-2 in 2011 and capped the season with a 29-16 win over No. 11 Kansas State in the AT&T Cotton Bowl.

The Razorbacks earned 12 points for a national runner-up finish in indoor track and field and another nine points for an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The men's track and field team also recorded the first Southeastern Conference triple crown since 2008, by winning the cross country, indoor and outdoor conference titles.

In addition, two Razorback women's teams earned points for the women's Capital One Cup standings. The women's indoor track and field team earned six points for a fifth place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. Gymnastics earned five points for its berth in the Super Six at the NCAA Gymnastics competition. Arkansas earned 11 points, but didn't qualify for the top 25 of the women's standings.
