FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas outfielder Matt Vinson’s home run robbing catch in the first inning of the series opener against Alabama was named the top play on the 10 p.m. edition of SportsCenter on Saturday night.
With the game scoreless in the top of the first inning, Alabama’s Josh Rosecrans hit a 1-1 pitch that appeared destined for the Arkansas bullpen behind the left field fence, but Vinson climbed the wall, stretched his left arm over the wall and made the catch, robbing the homer and keeping the game scoreless. The home run saving catch turned out to be a big play as Arkansas ended up winning the game 4-3 in 12 innings.
Arkansas is 18-2 on the season and 2-0 in Southeastern Conference play after winning the first two games of this weekend’s series against the Crimson Tide. After the 4-3 win on Friday, Arkansas clinched the series with an 8-4 win on Saturday afternoon.
The two teams wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Junior southpaw Randall Fant (1-1, 4.40) will start for Arkansas and will be opposed by Alabama’s junior right hander Trey Pilkington (0-1, 5.91).
