FAYETTEVILLE - The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team got off to a great start at the 2012 Louisville Fall Invitational collecting eight wins on the opening day of play.

We had a great day at the Louisville Invitational,” head coach Robert Cox said. “We went 8-1 for the day and I couldn’t be more pleased.”

All four Razorbacks started off the day with a win. Freshman Santiago Munoz tallied two victories in his second tournament of the fall season with wins over Kentucky’s Michael Binder 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-4 and Youngstown State’s Rodrigo Campos 6-2, 6-1. Munoz will face Louisville’s Jeffery Brown tomorrow in quarterfinal action.

Sophomore Victor Hoang also delivered two wins for the Hogs with a win over Youngtown State’s Victor Theorin 6-1, 6-1, followed by a win over Tennessee Tech’s Eze Gils 6-3, 6-1. Hoang will matchup against Eastern Kentucky’s Florian Graskamp Saturday.

After a bye in the first round, Junior Pete Thomason went on to defeat Murrey State’s Dylan Gerlach 6-0, 6-0. Thomason will play Morehead State’s Hugo Almonte in a semifinal match tomorrow.

Junior Mike Nott defeated EKU’s Joao Maio 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Kentucky’s Maks Gold 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles play, Arkansas went undefeated on day one. The duo of Nott and Hoang defeated a Morehead State team of Heo and Almonte 8-2, while the other doubles pair of Munoz and Thomason collected a win over West Alabama’s Fernandez and Grossman 8-2. Both doubles teams will be back in action tomorrow.

“One thing that I feel helped us win those matches was our conditioning,” Coach Cox said. “To be able to play two singles and a doubles match in one day really shows how much our conditioning has paid off.”

The Razorbacks will return the court on Saturday at 8 a.m. for the second day of the Louisville Fall Invitational. A full recap from action will be posted on ArkansasRazorbacks.com following each day's play.
