ATLANTA, Ga. – Senior Austin Cook posted his second solid round on day two of the PING/Golfweek Preview at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, Ga., but the No. 7 University of Arkansas men’s golf team did not perform as well as it had hoped, falling into a tie for 12th in the star-studded event.

Cook responded from a first round score of one-over par, 71, with a two-over par, 72, on the second day of competition which has him in the top 20 of the 75-person field.  Starting with three straight pars, Cook would go bogey-par over the next six holes to make the turn at three-over par.  Cook earned his first birdie of the day on the par five, 12th and sank a second birdie two holes later.  A single bogey on the back nine allowed him to return to the clubhouse with Arkansas’ best score of the day at two-over par.

Freshman Taylor Moore is also having a very good tournament and notched a round of three-over par on Monday to move to one-over for the tournament, a score that has him tied for eighth.  Like his teammate Cook, Moore did not sink a single birdie on the front nine and posted bogeys on the same three holes to make the turn at three-over par.  Moore’s back nine began with back-to-back bogeys, but he played the final seven holes at two-under par to post his 73.  Moore’s two-day score has him five strokes off the individual lead and two outside the top three.

As a team, the Razorbacks were not at their best, shooting 12-over par on the day.  Arkansas’ score dropped it into a tie for 12th, but are still within striking distance of most of the field as no one shot under par on day two.  A good final round by the Razorbacks could easily put them back among the top five teams.

Junior Sebastian Cappelen responded from a tough first day to card a respectable second round of three-over par.  Shaving four strokes off his day one score, Cappelen notched a birdie on the par five, 14th and four bogeys to arrive at his day two score.  The key to Cappelen’s score on day two was avoiding the big numbers which plagued him during Sunday’s round.

It was a second straight round of four-over par, 74, for sophomore Thomas Sorensen on Monday.  Playing a better front nine, Sorensen made the turn two strokes better than he had a day earlier at two-over par after a birdie and three bogeys.  His back nine was similar as it also included a single birdie and three bogeys.  For the second straight day, Sorensen played the longest holes of the course at even par.

Freshman Nicolas Echavarria concluded Arkansas’ second day with a score of 75, five-over par, matching his first day score.  Opening with a bogey, Echavarria returned to even with a birdie on No. 5, but was followed by a double bogey.  Four bogeys and a birdie later and Echavarria concluded his round with his five-over par score.

The Razorbacks conclude the PING/Golfweek Preview on Tuesday with players from Alabama and Georgia from the 10th tee beginning at 9:40 a.m.
