NEW YORK, N.Y. – The No. 1 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team closed out competition at the 2013 Armory Collegiate Invitational Saturday evening in New York. The Razorbacks picked up a win from Tomas Squella at 800 meters on the final day of the meet. Coupled with its efforts Friday, Arkansas finished the weekend with five top-three results at the Armory event.

Collectively, the Razorbacks totaled 45 points over the two-day competition, including 20 points from day two. Arkansas returns to its home track next weekend to host the Tyson Invitational. More than 40 universities will be represented at the Feb. 8-9 meet at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

In the team’s first result of the day, Squella turned in a first-place performance in the championship section of the 800 meters. Running in the second section of the timed final, he ran to a personal-best time of 1:49.51 to secure the top overall spot. Teammate Andrew Pisechko clocked a time of 1:52.61 in section one and finished in ninth place overall.

Arkansas’ 4x400-meter relay ran to a third-place overall finish in the weekend finale. The team of Neil Braddy, Anton Kokorin, Travis Southard and Akheem Gauntlett turned in a time of 3:11.65 in section four to secure the bronze result. The relay final was split into four sections with the top-three times all coming from the final race that included the SEC trio of the Razorbacks, LSU and Texas A&M.

The Razorbacks picked up a pair of two-eight performances in the championship section of the mile with Stanley Kebenei and Patrick Rono. Both runners posted personal-best times in the process. Running in the second section of the timed final, Kebenei ran to a sixth-place finish in 4:04.37. Rono won section one of the event final with a time of 4:08.42 and finished eighth overall.
