GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior Sebastian Cappelen tied for 12th individually to lead the No. 12 University of Arkansas men’s golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla., this weekend.

Cappelen and freshman Taylor Moore each placed among the top 25 individuals at the event with Moore shooting a Razorback tournament low round of 69 on Sunday to move up 20 places in the individual standings.

“We didn’t quite finish where I hoped we would, but overall this was a good opener to the spring schedule,” Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said.  “We had some highlights like Taylor’s 69 on Sunday and the consistent play of Sebastian throughout the tournament, but will have to get better as we move toward the SEC, NCAA Regional and National Championship.”

Arkansas shot its best round of the tournament on Sunday when it combined to shoot five-over par for a three-round total of 859, 20-over par.  No. 23 Florida State won the event going away at eight-under par and was followed by North Florida (+7), South Alabama (+10), No. 3 and host Florida (+11) and Central Florida (+19).

Cappelen carded his second round of one-over par on Sunday to each his 12th-place finish.  Opening with a birdie and two over his opening three holes, Cappelen notched a double bogey on the par 4, 13th, to go to even par and was one-over with bogey on No. 15.  Making the turn at one-over par, the Dane notched a single birdie and a bogey over the final nine holes to arrive at his final score.

Moore was the only Razorback to post a single round score under par when he shot one-under par, 69, on Sunday.  Opening with a bogey on No. 10, Moore knocked in seven par putts and a birdie to make it through the halfway point in the round at even par.  The Edmond, Okla., native was able to counter a double bogey on No. 5 with three birdies over the final nine holes to complete his round of 69, one stroke off his career best.

Junior Joe Doramus had an up-and-down round on Sunday, but managed to grind out a score of two-over par, 72.  Beginning his day with back-to-back birdies, Doramus was quickly two-under par and knocked in a bogey putt shortly after to shoot 34 for his opening nine holes.  His back nine included two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey for a three-round score of 218 which tied for 37th overall.

Playing his best round of the event on Sunday, senior Austin Cook sank three bogeys and 15 pars on way to a final round of 73, three-over par.  The round was a one-stroke improvement over his previous two and gave the Jonesboro, Ark., native a final tally of 221, 11-over par and tied for 51st individually.

Sophomore Thomas Sorensen had a tough day on two of the par three holes on Sunday which led to a score of six-over par on Sunday and a two-day score of 219, nine-over par.  Sorensen posted a birdie early in the day, but it was his only hole under par as he sank two double bogeys and three bogeys to go along with his 12 pars.  Sorensen completed the competition tied for 45th.

The Razorbacks are back in action in two weeks when they travel to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for the John Hayt Invitational, Feb. 24-26, at Sawgrass Country Club.
