OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Led by a one-under par 69 from senior Sebastian Cappelen, the No. 7 University of Arkansas men’s golf team improved by seven shots on the second day of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational to move into sole possession of third place in the 15-team field at the Olympia Fields Country Club North Course.

The Razorbacks followed Friday’s team score of 294 with a 287 on Saturday, which was good for the second-best round of the day. No. 1 Alabama (281-277) has a commanding 21-stroke lead heading into Sunday with No. 3 Texas (292-287) holding onto second place by two strokes over Arkansas.

“Today was a much better day for us overall and I’m proud of the guys for improving from round one to round two,” said head coach Brad McMakin. “The guys have done a really good job of not letting yesterday’s conditions and a tough golf course get to them. We need to put together an even better round tomorrow to continue to climb this leaderboard full of great programs.”

Cappelen was one of just five players in the talented field of 75 to finish the second round under-par. One of 16 players in the field that appeared on Golf World’s Top 50 Players to Watch list, Cappelen’s 69 was the 36th under-par round of his career, moving him up 24 spots into 11th place (75-69) on the leaderboard. Cappelen played bogey-free golf over the first 15 holes, getting to three-under on No. 15 with his 310th career birdie.

A day after finishing as the team’s low-man with an opening round 72, sophomore Taylor Moore moved inside the top 10 behind a one-over 71. Moore has 23 pars and five birdies through the opening 36 holes to sit in a three-way tie for eighth place. Redshirt sophomore Kolton Crawford’s second round 72 was highlighted by back-to-back birdies to end the day that moved him into a tie for 20th position. All five of Crawford’s birdies on his 74-72/146 scorecard have come on the back nine.

Playing in just the second round of his Razorback career, senior Blake Biddle contributed the last score in Arkansas’ 287 with a 75. Biddle, a transfer from UNLV, is currently tied for 42nd (76-75/151). Sophomore Nicolas Echavarria turned in a 73 on Friday, but fired an uncharacteristic 79 on Saturday.

The Razorbacks will be paired with Alabama and Texas for Sunday’s final round, taking the course from 8:50-9:22 a.m. Live scoring is available through www.GolfStat.com or www.ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Fans can also get in-round updates on twitter @RazorbackMGolf.
