FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Shannon Hudson and Brittany Huxley earned wins and advanced in their respective flights, as the University of Arkansas women's tennis team opened up and played host to its own Razorback Classic at the George M. Billingsley Tennis Center on Friday.

Competing under partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 80s, Hudson defeated Renata Kuricova of Tulsa, 7-5, 7-5, and advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Open Flight. With the win, the freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., improved to 4-0 overall in singles play on the fall season.

Advancing in the Wimbledon Flight was Brittany Huxley, as the sophomore from Grafton, Australia, earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Auburn's Ashley Kitchen.

"Obviously, the singles play from Brittany and Shannon was a very bright spot for us today," head coach Michael Hegarty said. "We need to work hard in doubles to get better starts and put together a complete day tomorrow."

Hudson and Huxley will pair up tomorrow, along with Flavia Araujo and Kristen Mee, as doubles play in the Australian Open Flight kicks off the day tomorrow at the Razorback Classic at 9 a.m.

Singles play is scheduled to follow, beginning at 10 a.m., as Hudson faces Caroline Wegner of Memphis and Huxley goes up against Tulsa's Maria Sant'Anna.
