Beverley named MVP of Eurocup

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former University of Arkansas men’s basketball player Patrick Beverley was named the MVP of the Eurocup it was announced on Friday.

Beverley, who currently plays for Spartak-St. Petersburg in Russia, led his team to a 15-1 record in the Eurocup and has his team in the finals of the league’s playoff.  Playing point guard for his squad, Beverley leads the team with 13.4 points and 3.8 assists per game.  He is also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per contest.

Beverley tweeted on Friday “Thanks Eurocup for awarding me MVP of 2011-12 season it’s definitely an honor!!!”

Beverley is one of several players and coaches to earn Eurocup honors.  Joining the former Razorback are Jonas Valanciunas of Lietuvos Rytas who was named the 2011-12 Eurocup Rising Star Trophy winner.  Spartak coach Jure Zdovc, was named Eurocup Coach of the Year.  Along with his MVP award, Beverley was also named to the Eurocup’s first team with Zoran Planinic of BC Khimki, Nik Caner-Medley of Valencia Basket and Valanciunas and Ronnie Seibutis of Rytas.

The Eurocup Finals MVP trophy will be awarded to the best player at the game as voted by journalists in attendance.
