The University of Arkansas basketball team hosts its long awaited start to the 2012-13 season on Friday night when it welcomes Southwest Baptist to Bud Walton Arena for an exhibition contest beginning at 7 p.m.  All University of Arkansas students will be admitted free of charge to each of the Razorbacks’ exhibition games.

The Razorbacks have been going hard since the beginning of August when they began preparations for their preseason trip to Italy and after more than two months of preparation, finally get to play someone other than themselves since that tour.  Friday night’s exhibition game is the first contest for both Arkansas and Southwest Baptist.

Arkansas fans were able to get a glimpse of “The Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball” on Tuesday night when the Razorbacks played in their annual Red-White scrimmage.  The Red team took the victory, 85-75, thanks to BJ Young, Hunter Mickelson and Anthlon Bell who combined for 67 points.  Marshawn Powell led White with 22 points as he continues to build strength as he makes his return from a season ending knee injury from a year ago.

The Razorbacks have significantly more options this season than they did a year ago.  Arkansas will dress 15 players throughout the season as opposed to the 10 it had it 2011-12 and the added depth should help Head Coach Mike Anderson run his signature style of play.

Southwest Baptist is a quality squad who is coming off an 18-12 season.  However, only three players return from last season, making this a bit of a transition game for the Bearcats.  Two of the SBU returnees averaged better than 12 points per game a year ago, Preston Guiot and Kyle Sloan, but none had more than 3.4 rebounds per game.

Season tickets for Razorback basketball games as well as mini-plans are on sale at the Razorback Ticket Center by calling 1-800-982-HOGS or by going on-line at ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Ticket packages are $450 and include admission to every game at Bud Walton Arena as well as both exhibition contests.

The Arkansas-Southwest Baptist game will be broadcast on the radio across the Razorback Sports Network from IMG College with Chuck Barrett and Rick Schaeffer giving the call.

Following the contest with Southwest Baptist, Arkansas remains at Bud Walton Arena on Monday, Nov. 5, for their final exhibition game against LeMoyne-Owen beginning at 7 p.m.
