After three months of build up, the University of Arkansas basketball team begins its 2012-13 season on Friday night at 7 p.m. when it welcomes Sam Houston State to Bud Walton Arena. Friday night’s game has been long anticipated by Razorback student-athletes, coaches and fans ever since the team went on a 10-day tour of Italy in mid-August.
The 2012-13 Razorbacks are undefeated in six preseason contests, four in Italy and two over the past week in Fayetteville. In each game the Razorbacks have been able to score points and have worn down their opposition with Mike Anderson
’s “Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball.” While the Arkansas defense appeared to be lagging behind its offense at times, the Razorbacks turned things around in their final exhibition game, a 111-45 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College.
The start of the 2012-13 season also marks the beginning of Anderson’s second year as the head coach in Fayetteville. The long-time assistant for the Razorbacks left for nine years to make two stops as a head coach at UAB and Missouri before returning to the program.
Sam Houston State begins its 2012-13 season at Bud Walton Arena were picked to finish seventh in the Southland Conference preseason poll. The Bearkats return four players from last season including guards Darius Gatson and DeMarcus Gatlin.
This is the third meeting between Arkansas and Sam Houston State all-time. The Razorbacks are 2-0 against their opponents from Texas with the last meeting coming 10 years ago during the 2002-03 season. Arkansas is 1-0 against the Bearkats in Fayetteville and 2-0 against them in the state of Arkansas.

Ticket packages are $450 and include admission to every game at Bud Walton Arena as well as both exhibition contests.
The Arkansas-Sam Houston State game will be broadcast on the radio across the Razorback Sports Network from IMG College with Scott Inman and Blake Eddins giving the call.
Following the contest with Sam Houston State, Arkansas gets nine days off from game competition before returning to Bud Walton Arena on Sunday, Nov. 18, against Longwood at 3 p.m.
