Arkansas drops series finale

FAYETTEVILLE - The University of Arkansas softball team fell 5-0 to No. 4 Florida on Sunday afternoon, moving its overall record to 18-12 and 2-9 in the Southeastern Conference.
 
Florida improves to 29-2 and 10-1 in SEC play.
 
The Gators got on the board first in the top of the first bringing in Michelle Moultrie off a single from Lauren Haeger, giving Florida the 1-0 lead.
 
The Razorbacks threatened in the bottom of the first loading the bases with singles from Devon Wallace and Clarisa Navarro. Andrea Sullivan was granted first base off a walk to load the bases; unfortunately no runs were brought home for Arkansas keeping the score at 1-0 in favor of Florida.
 
The Gators added to their lead in the top of the second when a runner on third scored off of a wild pitch, giving the Gators the 2-0 lead.
 
Moultrie hit her second home run on the weekend in the top of the third giving the Gators the 3-0 lead.
 
Arkansas had a good defensive inning in the top of the fourth when the Razorbacks caught a Gator attempting to steal second with a throw from Jayme Gee to Navarro.
 
Arkansas loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with three Razorbacks (Gee, Wallace and Pearson) granted walks. Once again the Arkansas left all three runners on base and was unable to bring in a run.
 
"An encouraging thing on today's game is that we are putting ourselves in good positions to score runs," said head coach Mike Larabee. "But against a team like Florida we need to take advantage of those opportunities."
 
Both teams went three up and three down in the sixth with the score remaining 4-0 in Florida's favor.
 
Florida scored one more run in the top of seventh giving the Gators the 5-0 lead. Arkansas was unable to put a run on the board in the bottom of the seventh giving Florida the 5-0 victory.
 
The Razorbacks are back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. verses Tulsa at Bogle Park.
