FAYETTEVILLE - Making her outdoor season debut Wednesday at the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Makeba Alcide is in sixth place after day one of the heptathlon. She has posted a total of 3,249 points through the first four events of the competition. Alcide was the only Razorback in action Wednesday as the No. 5 University of Arkansas women's track and field team opens its outdoor campaign this weekend in Austin.

In the first event of the day, Alcide finished second in her heat and seventh overall in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time of 14.27 was good for a first score of 941 points. She added 842 points to her total with a fourth-place finish in the high jump. Alcide had a final clearance of 1.69m/5.6-5. Through the first two events on day one of the heptathlon, she was tied for fourth place with 1,783 points.

The Razorback junior moved on to the shot put where her best throw was a mark of 11.47m/37-7.75. She finished eighth in the event and earned 626 points. Alcide closed out the day with a run of 25.52 and 840 points in the 200 meters. Through four events, she is sixth in a field of 22 competitors. Chelsea Carrier-Eades of West Virginia leads the heptathlon with 3,536 points.

Day two of the heptathlon will consist of the long jump, javelin and 800 meters. Alcide made her Texas Relays debut last season in the heptathlon and finished in fourth place with a then-personal best of 5,543 points. She went on to surpass that total at the SEC Championships in Athens, Ga. Alcide is the defending SEC heptathlon champion and finished 14th at the 2011 NCAA Championships.

Competition at the Texas Relays continues Thursday with the conclusion of the heptathlon and preliminary rounds of the 400-meter hurdles for school-record holder Brittany Hyter.
