Intrasquad gym meet Friday

FAYETTEVILLE - The Arkansas gymnastics team is holding an intrasquad meet on Friday in Barnhill Arena in preparation for the Jan. 11 season-opener against Georgia. Friday's practice meet is at 5 p.m. and is open to the public.

The Razorbacks, ranked No. 12 in the GymInfo pre-season national rankings, have held three other intrasquad meets this year, all in the Huntley Gymnastics Training Facility in the Bev Lewis Center.

The Razorbacks are coming off their second Super Six appearance in four years. Arkansas finished 2012 sixth in the nation, earned the first No. 1 national ranking in school history, earned an NCAA Regional bid for the ninth consecutive year and advanced to the NCAA Championship for the sixth time in seven years.

Five All-Americans are on the roster for co-head coaches Mark Cook and Rene Lyst.

Junior Katherine Grable is the most decorated with four All-America honors - two each in 2011 and 2012. As a freshman, she was first-team on floor and second-team on vault. Last year, she was first-team on beam and second-team on vault.

Seniors Amy Borsellino and Kelci Lewis were All-Americans in 2011. Borsellino was a first-teamer on vault in 2011 while Lewis was second-team on floor.

Last year, junior Bailee Zumwalde and sophomore Stephani Canizaro each earned second-team honors on floor.

Junior Shelby Salmon also returns after setting career highs last season on bars and beam.

Senior Jordan Salsberg and junior Scarlett Williams are also back, but are out with injuries.

Freshmen newcomers include Sydnie Dillard, Heather Elswick, Erin Freier and Lillian Hardin, and recent addition Keara Glover.

Arkansas opens the season Jan. 11 at home against No. 11 Georgia.
