Below are season-long notes for the University of Arkansas swimming and diving team.
Mayfield breaks a Kansas pool record
FAYETTEVILLE -Freshman Anna Mayfield stepped up in a big way in the 500 freestyle, recording not only the first-place finish but also the Kansas pool record.
Mayfield took the lead out of the gate with a 27.49 opening split. The San Antonio, Texas, native was the only swimmer never to break 30 seconds on all 10 legs. Mayfield also nabbed the fastest closing split with a 28.37 to take first. The Razorbacks would go on to win the meet 219-81, sweeping the Jayhawks in all 16 events.
The pool record is the second pool record this season for the freshman, who also picked up one during the double-dual meet at Davidson in the 100 backstroke after clocking a 55.39.
Arkansas returns to the pool on Tuesday, Feb. 19, for the first day of the Southeastern Conference Championships in College Station, Texas.
