FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Taj Harrison, a junior on the Arkansas men’s tennis team, has been named to the Southeastern Conference’s Community Service Team, the league has announced.

“I am very proud of Harrison,” said head coach Robert Cox. “He always goes above and beyond and he is very deserving of this award.”

Harrison was honored with the award because of his commitment to assisting the Northwest Arkansas community. During his time as a Razorback, he has participated in numerous service acts. He attends all SAAC meetings as an alternate. He participated in the Sweat Hawgs program. He also participated in the Book Hogs reading program, where he read to students in classrooms, was a part of the Heart Walk Program at Arvest Ball Park, and participated in Boy Scout events on campus, kids tennis youth clinics and the SEC “Together We Can” canned food drive.

“Taj choosed to spend his free time giving back, and I am very proud of him for that,” said Cox. “He is a great representative for Razorback athletics and the men’s tennis team.”

On the court, Harrison accumulated 11 singles wins for the 2010-11 season. In dual play this spring he went undefeated with a 3-0 record. In doubles, he gathered eight wins. Four of his victories were with partner Mike Nott, three with Hall Fess and one with Manfred Jeske.

Harrison is a redshirt junior from Kansas City. Prior to Arkansas, he attended Johnson County CC in Overland Park, Kan. He is the son of Robert Harrison and Tajsheena Ross-Harrison. He has two brothers, Marlon and Malcom. His brother Marlon played tennis for Rust College and his brother Malcolm was his teammate at Johnson County CC.
