FAYETTEVILLE - Competing at the 2012 UIL Texas 3A State Championships last weekend in Austin, future Razorback Jarrion Lawson won a pair of titles in the long jump and triple jump. In the process, the Texarkana Liberty-Eylau High School standout set two class records and established national leaders in both events.

On his first attempt in the long jump, Lawson got out to a national-leading mark of 25-8, soaring past the previous Texas Class 3A record of 25-2.5 set 16 years ago. With the wind-legal jump, he put himself atop the prep list for the United States this season. Lawson won the competition by more than two feet and had three jumps that would have put him in first place.

He doubled up with his victory in the triple jump. Running into a headwind on his final attempt, Lawson posted a measurement of 51-10.25 to out-distance the pack. His performance established a new Texas Class 3A record by more than a foot and represented Lawson's second nation-best jump of the weekend. Including the final jump, three of his marks would have set the class record.

Looking at the prep national performance list for 2012, Lawson is the only athlete over 25 feet in the long jump and over 51 feet in the triple jump. In addition to his accomplishments in the horizontal jumps, Lawson also served as the anchor leg for Texarkana Liberty-Eylau's 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

The Texarkana, Texas, native is a member of the Razorbacks' 2012-13 signing class that currently includes Kemoy Campbell (Manchester, Jamaica/South Plains College), Stefan Fennell (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College), Eric Janise (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS), Stanley Kebenei (Nakura, Kenya/Iowa Central CC), Ken LeGassey (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) and Cale Wallace (Houston, Texas/Cypress-Ranch HS).
