FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The University of Arkansas Razorback men’s tennis team compiled four wins overall on the first day of play at the Midland Invitational on Friday at the Midland Racquet Club in Midland, Texas.
“I was very pleased with today’s play,” head coach Robert Cox said. “They ended very strong with a win in doubles.”
The Razorbacks picked up three wins in singles competition with Hall Fess first downing Joe Schafer of Davidson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Shortly thereafter, Victor Hoang defeated Tyler JC’s Zach Sivalls 6-2, 6-1. Taking home the last singles win for the Hogs, was Jovan Parlic who topped Nebraska’s Dusty Boyer, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Capping off the day was the doubles duo of Jovan Parlic and Pete Thomason. The pair defeated Arbiza/Emiciciou of the University of Texas-Arlington to close out the day for the Razorbacks.
The doubles pair of Fess and Hoanghad a bye in their first doubles match and will play tomorrow.
“This is such a great opportunity,” Cox said. “Our guys are stepping up to the challenge and we are excited to see what the rest of the tournament brings.”
The Razorbacks will return to the Midland Racquet Club on Saturday at 9 a.m. for the second day of the Midland Invitational. A full recap from action will be posted on ArkansasRazorbacks.com following each day's play.
